Hilton Head, South Carolina is a famous vacation destination for hundreds of thousands of familes each year. There are some people, myself included, want a relaxing atmosphere to take the wife and kids. If that is you, then Hilton Head Island is your place.
There are lots of things you can do when you visit Hilton Head. Of course you have the sandy beaches, which is not crowded at all compared to some of your other South Carolina beaches. You have pretty much anything you want at your disposal at Hilton Head.
Hilton Head island’s busy season is the same as all other vacation destinations. We went the last week in July. I would say it definitely could have been much worse. It was not overly crowded for my tastes. I will say the Saturday that we were there was a bit more crowded, but that is part of the experience. The weekends are always more crowded.
I have never been there at any other time, but many have said that sometimes the eating areas will shut down periodically throughout the year just to get things cleaned up a bit. If it’s too cold to swim, you can always play lots of golf. If I remember correctly, there are over 21 golf courses around the area, so if you like golf, a Hilton Head Island Vacation is your spot, regardless of the how cold it is.
According to various travel websites, visitors to Hilton Head Island arrive and leave on a Saturday, which explains what I mentioned above. It is more crowded on weekends, especially on Saturdays. This year we arrived on a Sunday evening, which was really very easy. There were no traffic issues, and neither was the checking in process.
Be aware of the rules and regulations at Hilton Head Island. No alcoholic beverages on the beach. Don’t think you can get away with having a few brews either. Leave everything living on the beach. Sometimes that can be a challenge with the young ones, some of them would grab sand dollars and starfish that floated up with the tide in the early part of the mornings. That is a big no no!
Biking is common on Hilton Head, and there are many bike paths all over the island. I have never seen so many vacationers on bikes in my entire life….they are spread all over. Especially at the Sea Pines area. There are some good reasons to travel by bike, there’s no parking problem and it’s good exercise. There are many places to rent bicycles.
Hilton Head Island is a great place to take the family. I like going there and will continue to do so. It can be a little more expensive than some areas, but I think that it is worth it. My whole family loves it and I am positive yours will as well.
