The eternal town of Rome is famous of its cultural and historical sights, but one of the most visited treasures in Rome’s environment are Vatican Museums. If you decide to Trip to Rome, be sure to take a whole day excursion to visit the city of Vatican. In fact, when you come over there, you’ll realize that one day is to short to look round all that treasures. My recommendation is to find hotel accommodation nearby the Vatican. Than you can ramble around whenever you want and feel the city and its spirituality. Moreover, close to the Vatican, you can book Hotel Accommodations at affordable prices.
It’s better to use the City Metro, than you can arrive to any other sightseeing puunct in Rome in a few minutes.
On Show in the Vatican Museums are few thousands of masterpieces that represent more than four thousands years of human past, from the head of the Egyptian king Mentuhotep, a portrait dating from 2050 BC, to works of modern art. These treasures from the historic art and the present have been collected in the Vatican collections through the intelligence and good taste of numerous popes. It is very difficult to choose just a several masterpieces to be mentioned from the thousands of works on exhibition in the Vatican. But if I have to mention only one of masterpieces in Vatican, that have made the deepest impression on me it would be the final work of my favorite painter, one of the greatest artists ever, Raphael.
First, I have to note that even the main doorway of the Vatican Museum is one of the amazing masterpiece. The doorway was built in 1932 by the famous architect Giuseppe Momo as a new enter door into the Vatican Museums, opens through the massive walls built in the 16th century for the defence of Vatican. It is surmounted by two statues, works by Pietro Melandri, representing the two historic artists who spent the biggest part of their lives improving the treasures of the Vatican and the city of Rome: on one side is the genius of the Renaissance, Michelangelo, holding the sculptor’s mallet in his hand; and on the other side is the well known painter Raphael, holding the painter’s palette and brushes.
My favorite masterpiece in Vatican Museum take place in Room VIIII. It is one of Raphael’s best-known works, painting named „The Transfiguration“, oil on wood, 410×279 cm, created on 1520.
Raphael, one of the most famous artists ever, died on 1520. at the age of only 37, before he could complete it. Because of the beauty of its colours, its formal perfection and its markable spirituality, this painting can beconsidered as Raphael’s artistic and religious testament. The painting looks like consisting of two sections, one above the other, showing two motives described in the Gospels. Before his crucifixion Jesus asked the apostoles Peter, James and John to accompany him to the summit of Mount Tabor. The Bible tell us that here Jesus was transfigured and appeared bathed in [spin]light, in conversation with Moses and the prophet Elijah. This sight frightened the apostles and at the same time gave them heart.
The lower part of thepainting shows boy possessed by the devil. His face and body are distorted by the struggle with demon inside him. The boy’s parents and relatives beg the apostles for help. The beautifuamazingl female figure in the foreground is representing the Faith. She too invites Christ’s disciples to act. The apostles show to Jesus, who actually expels the devil.
In this Raphael’s final work he shows how, after seeing the frescoes in the Sistine Chapel, he has completely understood and accepted Michelangelo’s extraordinary new message of art. All the figures are strongly rendered. Faith has the strength and beauty of Sibyl one of the figure on Michelangelo’spainting. Raphael came close to finishing this masterpiece and it was subsequently completed by his pupils.
